Ragging of any nature by any other student or any other person is a serious punishable offence and must be reported to warden /teacher/Principal or management immediately Curbing the Menace of Ragging The order of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India regarding punishment for ragging is as follows:

“If any incident of ragging comes to the notice of the authority, the concerned student shall be given liberty to explain and if his explanation is not found satisfactory, the authority would expel him from the institution”.

 

What Is Ragging?

“Any disorderly, whether by words spoken or written, or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness any other student, indulging in rowdy or undisciplined activities which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or to raise apprehension thereof in a fresher or a junior student or asking the students to do any act or perform something which such student will not in the ordinary course and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of a fresher or a junior student”. Thus, ragging includes:

 

• Act of physical and sexual abuse, homosexual assault, stripping, forcing obscene and lewd acts, gestures, causing bodily harm or any other danger to health.
• Act of abuse by spoken words, emails, snail-mails, public insults, perverted pleasures, vicarious or sadistic feel from actively or passively participating in the discomfiture to others
• Exploiting the services of junior students for completing the academic tasks by the seniors.
• Act of financial extortion or forceful expenditure
• Any act that affects the mental health and self confidence of students

 

Be it known to all that action shall be taken against those who are found indulging in ragging as per Recommendations of Raghavan Committee to Curb the Menace of Ragging Constituted By the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, which are as follows

1. The punishment to be meted out has to be exemplary and justifiably harsh to act as a deterrent against recurrence of such incidents.
2. Victim may lodge an FIR
3. The institution must be an active party to lodge an FIR.
4. Ragging Evidence: Act of ragging witnessed by teacher, non-teaching staff or administrative staff to be treated as final.
5. In case the applicant for admission is found to have indulged in ragging in the past or if it is noticed later that he has indulged in ragging, admission may be refused or he shall be expelled from the educational institution.
6. Anti-ragging committees and squads shall be formed by the institutions and it shall be the job of the committee or the squad, as the case may be, to see that the Committee’s recommendations, more particularly those noted above, are observed with out exception.

 

C) CODE OF CONDUCT

The disciplined behaviour of every student in and outside the college campus is a must. It includes;
i)
Students are not allowed to paste notice within the institution without prior permission from the Principal and are forbidden to communicate with any outside authority directly. All such communications must be submitted through the Principal who would forward these for further action to the concerned, id deemed fit. Any student infringing this rule will be suspended.
ii)
The college shall not be responsible for debts incurred by the student.
iv)
Student must pay/replace for damages caused by them to books, equipment, instrument, apparatus etc. and other college property, at the rate of market price at the time of such breakage.
v)
Students are required to maintain silence in the library and should avoid conversation of any type.
vi)
The following acts are strictly forbidden inside the institution:
 
a) The possession or use of alcoholic beverages and non-vegetarian foods/snacks;
b) The possession or use of addictive or hallucinogenic drugs;
c) Gambling;
d) The possession or use of firearms or any lethal weapons;
e) Loitering around unnecessarily
f) Use of Mobile in class rooms/clinics and practicals during college hours
vii)
Students are not permitted to use the college telephone.
ix)
Illness or minor ailments must be reported to the warden immediately.
x)
Students must arrange for washable white coats, which must be worn at all times in the college campus_ be it in lecture halls, laboratories or clinical departments. Students must get stitched green strip (s) of cloth (3cm in length, 1 cm in width with ½ cm distance between two strips), horizontally on their left sleeve of coat. The number of strips represent the BDS year in which the student is currently studying in. For e.g. One Strip – BDS 1st Year, Two Strips – BDS 2nd Year and so on.
xi)
Students are required to wear formal/decent dress. Jeans, T-Shirts and Sports Shoes are prohibited. Girl Students must put their hair up, when at work in the college or hospital
xii)
Students are required to procure their own dissecting instruments and implements used in Anatomy, Physiology and Pharmacology.
xiii)
Students are not allowed to visit each others’ place of clinical posting for any reason until and unless permitted by clinical instructor /demonstrator / supervisor.
xiv)
Students are not allowed to leave their place of duty without prior permission.
xv)
Students will observe high degree of co-ordination/ co-operation and politeness among each other while taking care of patients in the ward/department.
xvi)
Students will leave the ward/department only after handing over the charge/ care/ treatment of their assigned patients to the staff nurse/teacher.
xvii)
All incidents of neglect of duties, breaches of rules and acts of indiscipline are to be brought to the notice of the Principal. The Principal shall take decision for minor punishment The Principal in consultation with the senior staff members shall deal and decide for serious offence by the student, about the quantum of punishment and adverse entry in the personal file of the student may be made by concerned HOD/warden or other staff.
xviii)
The decision of the governing body in all disputes would be final and binding on to the students.
